Greg Brown at Swallow Hill Denver (12/15; 12/16)

Singer, songwriter and poet Greg Brown returns to grace the Swallow Hill stage once again for two nights in a row to perform songs from his new CD The Evening Call. A two-time Grammy nominee and winner of a NAIRD Indie Award at age 18, Greg won the opportunity to play an opening set for singer Eric Andersen in Iowa City. Since then, he has been performing the four corners of the country including performances on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion. Rolling Stone praises him as “a wickedly sharp observer of the human condition.” Greg has been a touring musician for over thirty years.

Years of childhood classical piano lessons and voice training have gained him a powerful voice that has been described as “thundering” and an understanding and love of various musical styles such as classical, hillbilly, early rock ‘n’ roll, country, gospel and blues that he incorporates into his songs. His unique vocals have been praised by Puremusic as “dirt and gravel road” and his songs have been said to “hearken back to the work of Howlin' Wolf himself.” All musical styles that Greg uses are his canvas to paint songs about his favorite themes community, family, home, poetry, nature and ecological responsibility things that he firmly believes in and supports. His songs have been recorded by Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Michael Johnson, Shawn Colvin, and Mary Chapin Carpenter to name a few.
